Vietnamese ethnic village launches festive days to welcome Tet

VOV.VN - The Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism on the outskirts of Hanoi will host a wide range of cultural activities on February 24 - 25 as part of celebrations for the upcoming Lunar New Year festival, known locally as Tet.

A special art programme will feature numerous songs about spring festivals and the traditional customs of ethnic groups for Tet celebrations.

The highlight of the occasion will be the introduction of intangible cultural heritages to visitors, including “Then” singing, known locally as “Hat Then”, which is a distinctive musical genre of the Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups who reside in northern mountainous provinces such as Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, and Lang Son.

The festival will provide an opportunity for visitors to experience Xoang dancing of the B'ru Van Kieu ethnic group in Quang Ninh and a Gong performance put on by locals in the Central Highlands region.

Traditional customs during Tet will also be introduced to visitors, with the aim of preserving, upholding, and promoting the values of Vietnamese ethnic minority groups.

Visitors to the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism will also be given the chance to sample distinctive dishes of ethnic people and play their folk games.
