Medical checkup fees down up to 20% from mid-July

Medical checkup fees will decrease by 15%-20% as from July 15 when a circular issued by the Ministry of Health regulating uniform prices for medical checkup and treatment services for insurance card holders in hospitals across the country takes effect.

According to Nguyen Nam Lien, head of the Health Ministry’s Department of Planning and Finance, under the circular, medical checkup fees will be reduced by between VND4,800 (US$0.12)-VND5,900 (US$0.25) depending on the category of the hospital. 

For example, a medical checkup at a special-level hospital will cost VND33,100 under the circular instead of the previous VND39,000, while the fee at a second-level hospital will be VND29,600 instead of the present VND35,000. 

At the same time, prices for hospital beds will also drop from VND632,200 (US$27.8) to VND615,600 (US$27.06) per day in level-1 hospital. Price of bed in the emergency unit in level-4 hospitals will also decline from the present VND226,000 (US$9.94) to VND221,200 (US$9.73).

Notably, some treatment services’ prices will also fall sharply. The cost for a tonsillitis surgery will drop from VND3.6 million (US$158.4) to VND2 million (US$88).

The circular, which was issued in June 18, also gives guidelines on the calculation of prices for medical services in some specific cases.
