Vietnamese mission in Geneva attends Asian Harvest Festival

VOV.VN - The Asian Ambassadors' Wives Association in Geneva organised the Asian Harvest Festival on June 2 at the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), with the occasion featuring the participation of missions of Asian nations.

Participants included the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the UN, the WTO, and other international organizations based in Geneva

During the event, the Vietnamese mission in Geneva introduced several national costumes and typical Vietnamese agricultural products such as rice, coffee, tea, cashew nuts, confectionery, and fruit. It also donated gifts for the lucky draw and arranged booths in which to introduce apparel products, such as the ao dai, the national long dress, silk scarves, fine art products, and souvenirs.

The Vietnamese booth attracted plenty of visitors and had the honour of welcoming a visit by Tatiana Valovaya. director general of the UN Office in Geneva, Daren Tang, director general of the WIPO, and his wife.

This is widely viewed as an opportunity for the Vietnamese mission to briefly introduce the long-standing wet rice civilization with 70% of the population living in rural areas, whereby harvest festivals have become a larger part of daily life for the Vietnamese people.

Speaking at the opening of the festival, Tang described the event as a contribution to the promotion of Asia's diverse cultures by creating conditions in which Asian nations can display handicrafts and unique agricultural products, culinary specialties, traditional costumes, music, and ethnic dances.

Furthermore, visitors had the opportunity to savour Asian flavors, enjoy delicious food and cultural programmes, as well excellent art performances that have helped to strengthen co-operation and close relations between member states. These efforts have been taking place while working towards humanitarian and social welfare goals, with all proceeds taken from the festival being donated to charitable organisations.

The Asian Harvest Festival was organized after the success of the Taste of Asia festival held last October, with the opening event for cultural activities taking place at the WIPO’s headquarters after a long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
