Vietnam sees bright prospects ahead to build ties with Russia’s Primorye region

VOV.VN - There remains plenty of room for Vietnam and Russia's Primorye region to co-operate in developing the shipbuilding industry and getting involved in bidding for the construction of civil works amid the strong development of the Primorye region, according to insiders.

This information was released by Nguyen Hong Thanh, Vietnamese Trade Representative in Russia at the first Primorye International Forum for Industry and Investment held in Vladivostok on December 21.

Upon addressing the forum, Thanh emphazised that the trade turnover between the country and Russia's Far East region is anticipated to reach US$257 million this year.

Of the figure, the Primorye region with the seaports of Nakhodka and Vladivostok have contributed about 65% of the overall figure, roughly US$167 million.

In the late spring of next year, construction of the TH True Milk processing factory project is expected to begin in the Mikhailovsky Priority Development Zone in the Primorye region, he added.

Currently, the Consul General of Vietnam in Vladivostok and Vietnam's Trade Representative Office in the Far East are actively seeking Vietnamese financiers to build an inland container depot in Vladivostok.

Thanh revealed that there are bright prospects ahead for the export of light industrial goods such as clothing, shoes, household appliances, and processed foods to the Far East region, Siberia, and others.

At the event, Governor of Primorye region Oleg Kozhemyako said during the nine-month period the locality had attracted a record investment of US$2.6 billion, representing an increase of 9% over the same period from last year.

Moving forward, this region is anticipated to attract more than US$3.8 billion of investment capital next year, he noted.
