A tropical low pressure is forecast to gain strength and turn into a tropical storm - the sixth storm of this year, warned the National Hydro-meteorological Forecast Centre on August 3.

At 7am on August 3, the eye of the storm was situated at 18.3 degrees north latitude and 115.7 degrees east longitude, around 400km north-east of Hoang Sa archipelagoes. The strongest wind speed near the eye of the storm was 62-74km per hour.

It is forecast that in the next 24 hours, the storm will move north-west at an average speed of 10km per hour. By 7am on August 4, the centre of the storm is expected to reach 20.0 degrees north latitude and 115.1 degrees east longitude, around 280km south-east of Hong Kong.

Due to the storm, the northern parts of the East Sea are expecting to experience heavy rains and rough seas.

To ensure the safety of ships at sea, the Central Committee for Storm and Flood Control and Prevention and the National Committee for Rescue and Research have urged all local authorities to get in contact ships and guide them out of danger areas and find shelter.
