First Vietnamese gymnast qualifies for world championships

VOV.VN - Local gymnast Van Vi Luong earned a spot to the world championships after having good performance at the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships underway in Singapore from June 15-to June 18.

In the men’s all-around finals on June 15, he ranked second and was one of  the six athletes to progress to the world championships in Belgium from September 30 to October 8.

This is the first time that Singapore has host a continental tournament.

The Asian championships is a key event on the road towards the Paris Olympics. The best athletes at the tournament will go through to the world championships in Belgium late September. From the world championships, top gymnasts will qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics. 

The Vietnamese squad at the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships include three SEA Games champions Le Thanh Tung, Van Vi Luong and Nguyen Van Khanh Phong along with young talent Tran Dinh Vuong and Nguyen Phuoc Hai.

The Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships will last until June 18.

China and Japan’s men’s and women’s teams have already qualified for the world championships along with the Republic of Korea’s men by virtue of their performances at the 2022 world championships in Liverpool, England.
