Two arrested after attempting to smuggle newborn into China

VOV.VN -Two Vietnamese nationals have been arrested by border guards at the Chi Ma border gate following their attempts to smuggle a newborn baby into China.

The two suspects were discovered by border guard forces as they were carrying a newborn baby across the border into China at national border milestone 1227 in Quan Phat tow, Yen Khoai commune, Loc Binh district, Lang Son province,.

The pair are Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tram, a 22-year-old residing in Long Khanh B commune, Hong Ngu district, Dong Thap province, and Ngo Duy Khang, a 28-year-old residing in Phuoc Dong commune, Can Duoc district, Long An province.

Upon their arrival at the police station, both suspects confessed to receiving the baby from a woman named Chau at a general hospital in Long Khanh area, Dong Nai province.

They had also paid Chau over VND10 million (US$434) for her to create a birth certificate stating that Tram and Khang were the baby’s parents. They then set about trying to illegally leave Vietnam before giving the baby to an unidentified man. If the pair had been successful they would have received VND50 million.

The police are now continuing their investigation into the case.

Since the beginning of the month, border guards in Lang Son province have successfully broken up three cases involving people attempting to smuggle newborn babies across the border into China.
