After a slight drop on the previous days, the price of gold has gone up suddenly and is expected to reach VND16 million per tael.

SJC gold at the Sai Gon Gold, Silver and Gem Stone Company is currently trading at VND15.84-15.90 million per tael in Hanoi, up VND140,000/tael compared with Wednesday transactions while the price of gold stands at VND15.70-15.76 million per tael, a little more or less in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and Can Tho.

On the free market, SJC gold is being transacted at VND15.82-15.87 million per tael.

From 8.30am on December 27 Thang Long Dragon 999.9 pure gold at Bao Tin Minh Chau has been sold at VND15.80 million/tael.

The domestic price of gold has changed due to the surging price of gold on the world’s market in New York, which has ever reached US$826/oz and is hovering at just over US$822/oz.

Another factor is that the price of oil (at about US$94-95 per barrel), has risen by US$5/barrel since December 20 and will continue to go up because of the heating demands over winter. In addition, the continual depreciation of the US dollar will also send gold prices soaring.
