Debris found in Australia not from missing flight MH370

Australian investigators on June 22 said debris found on an island of the country earlier this month is not from missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) on June 9 said the bureau was informed that the debris had been found on Kangaroo Island off the southern Australian coast.

Australia’s media broadcast images showing the object was among seaweed and driftwood and resembled part of a plane, with the words “Caution No Step”.

The ATSB’s notification on June 22 stated that information from the manufacturer revealed that the debris is not consistent with the manufacturing specifications of a Boeing commercial aircraft.

The disappearance of MH370 is one of the greatest mysteries in aviation history. It vanished with 239 people on board en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing in March 2014.

Investigators believe that the plane went down in a remote area of the Indian Ocean.

In July last year, a piece of the plane washed up on the French island of Reunion in the Indian Ocean but no further trace has been found.

Search forces are expected to complete their sweep of the 120,000 sq.km area by August, and there are no plans to extend the hunt beyond that.
