UNESCO hails Vietnam’s cultural heritage preservation
(VOV) -Vietnam is making every effort in implementing the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage (ICH), showing its commitment to preserving and promoting cultural and natural heritage.
Sun Lei, a UNESCO Vietnam Office representative, was speaking at a workshop in Hanoi on July 24 to review 10 years of implementing the UNESCO Convention.
Vietnam has made a considerable contribution to the Convention’s implementation, raising the heritage’s cultural values in society and creating a driving force behind sustainable development, said Sun Lei.
Nguyen Cao Phong, Secretary-General of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO, stressed the need to preserve cultural diversity, including intangible cultural heritage examples, in the context of the globalization.
He confirmed that Vietnam’s ICH examples were formed and developed along with the course of national history, and they are not the property of any individual and region, but the whole nation.

This demonstrates the international community’s recognition of Vietnam’s diverse and rich culture and provides a good chance for the country to promote and exploit its cultural masterpieces for local socio-economic and tourism development.
Cultural activists and managers shared experience in strengthening cooperation and mutual support to protect and promote ICHs.
