'Clean water for schools’ program launched in Mekong Delta

Following sustainable development strategy, Novaland Group is currently the pioneer unit in the project of "Developing sustainable strategy for Mekong Delta Tourism".

The project has received special attention and support from Prime Minister, government agencies and localities. It will create a new motivation for the sustainable development of Mekong Delta, helping adapt to the growing threat of climate change and generating new jobs for the local people.

The partnership in the project "Clean Water for Schools" has demonstrated Novaland’s endless efforts towards the community, especially to the areas affected by climate change.

Mr Nguyen Truc Son, Party Committee Secretary of Thanh Phu District, Ben Tre Province said, "Thanh Phu district has 26 km of sea border. Climate change is a major obstacle to the local economic development, which is primarily agricultural. In 12 months, about 3-6 months, the district is affected by salinity intrusion. The district has only one water plant, meeting the needs of one third of the 150,000 people.

On education section, only three schools have water tanks and filters to use, temporarily meeting the needs of students and teachers. 52 proposed schools in the program are still in difficult circumstances, with no clean water. Therefore, we are very pleased that the delegation of the SAPP, Novaland Group and the technical units have visited, researched and funded Thanh Phu district in the 'Clean Water for Schools' program this year. "

Within 3 months after the signing date, about 516 water filters will be installed in 52 schools in Thanh Phu district, Ben Tre province, provide direct drinking water to nearly 20,000 students and teachers. After Ben Tre, the "Clean Water for Schools" program will also be implemented in other provinces.

According to a UNICEF report, in Vietnam there are currently 17 million children have not reached clean water. The Preventive Medicine Department also announced that 30% of schools still do not have enough water for students and teachers.

In particular, many reports show that Mekong Delta is most affected by climate change and the lack of clean water in Vietnam.

In addition, the use of unsafe water from dug wells, rain, junk, ponds, lakes, rivers, streams, etc. are causing serious consequences of the human health, especially to children such as gastrointestinal disease, malnutrition, oral disease, helminthiasis, lead poisoning or arsenic leading to high risk of cancer.
