Laos, Vietnam aim to finalize border marker planting

(VOV) - Vietnam and Laos have consented, at their 24th annual meeting held in Vientiane, Laos, from February 10-12, to complete the planting of more markers along their shared border line and upgrading of border markers this year.

The Vietnam delegation is headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of the National Border Committee, Ho Xuan Son, while the Lao delegation is led by Saleumxay Kommasith, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of the Laos-Vietnam Border Committee.

At the meeting, both sides reviewed border area management work, particularly the implementation of the Vietnam-Laos Agreement on National Border Regulations, the project on planting and upgrading national border markers and the governmental-level agreement on addressing unplanned migration issues and unregistered marriages.

The agenda also covers cooperation in economic-social development in border areas and other issues as reached by the two sides agreed at the previous meeting.

Stability and good social order in border areas over recent years have facilitated economic-social development and ensured security-national defence.

The two sides also concurred to increase coordination to combat trans-border crimes, particularly drug crimes.

Delegates also gave recommendations to strengthen friendship exchange and economic-social development cooperation in border.
