Vietnam spends US$1.43 billion on meat imports in 2023

VOV.VN - Vietnam imported more than 716,000 tonnes of meat and meat products worth US$1.43 billion in 2023, according to the Import and Export Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

This number marks a rise of 5.4% in quantity but a decline of 3.9% in value compared to the same period last year.

Also during this period, the country imported from more than 57 markets, and India was the largest supplier, shipping 160,000 tonnes worth over US$476 million, up 6.1% in quantity but down 1.4% in value.

The main types of imported meat include poultry and offal, fresh chilled or frozen pork, and fresh chilled or frozen beef.

Imports of offal of pigs, buffaloes, and cows were on the uptrend; while pork, poultry, and beef imports all decreased year on year.

In 2023, Vietnam exported more than 22,000 tonnes of meat and meat products worth over US$110 million, up 19% in volume and 30.4% in value compared to the figures recorded in the previous year.

Its meat and meat products were available in 28 markets, with Hong Kong (China) emerging as the largest consumer, followed by China, Belgium, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, Cambodia, France, and the United States.
