Thousands of Buddhist nuns, monks and followers from across the country gathered at Pho Quang Pagoda in Ho Chi Minh City on March 29 to welcome the world’s largest jade Buddha statue.

“The Jade Buddha for Universal Peace” was carved from an 18-tonne jade boulder discovered on the North Pole. The 4.8m-tall statue weighs 5,000kg, and is considered the world’s largest and most solemn Buddhist jade statue.

After being shipped to Vietnam, the jade statue will be displayed in many countries around the world so that people worldwide can contemplate and pray for a peaceful world.
