Prime Minister Phan Van Khai said southern Dong Nai province is to focus on the quality of economic growth and services in its industrial zones.

During a visit to the southern province on the third day of the Lunar New Year (January 31), the government leader praised the dynamism, creativeness and unanimity of the province's Party organisations and people to record socio-economic progresses in recent years.
He asked the local authorities to pay more attention to workers’ living condition in industrial zones and urged them to accelerate reforms in administrative management.
PM Khai also expressed his belief that Dong Nai would soon become well industrialised.

Tran Dinh Thanh, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee, informed PM Khai of Dong Nai province’s outstanding achievements in 2005 as well as during the 2001-05 period.
He said the province earned nearly US$3.2 billion from exports last year, accounting for 10 percent of the country’s total export turnover.

Dong Nai now has 23 industrial zones which lured almost 700 foreign-invested projects with a combined registered capital of US$8 billion by late 2005, ranking third in foreign investment attraction, only behind Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

Over the past five years, Dong Nai has posted average annual growth rates of 12.7 percent and 17.4 percent in gross domestic product (GDP) and in industrial production, respectively, Mr. Thanh said.
For the 2006-2010 period, the province targets annual growth rates of 14-14.5 percent in GDP.
