State President Nguyen Minh Triet witnessed the signing of investment co-operation deals worth more than US$1.8 billion between the US and Vietnamese businesses.

State President Nguyen Minh Triet attended a meeting entitled “Financial investment in Vietnam” with US chief executive officers (CEO) and financial investors in New York on June 20 (Hanoi time).

The meeting attracted more than 300 investors, showing great interest in the Vietnamese financial market.

Mr Triet delivered a message to US investors that Vietnam is a dynamic developing country and an attractive investment destination. He affirmed that Vietnam needs a large investment capital to continue this development. Nowadays, Vietnam is no longer involved in war but in a dynamic and prospective economy in Southeast Asia. Vietnam has a favourable investment environment and attractive investment policies.

“We are waiting for you,” President Triet concluded.

President Triet emphasised that US investors’ expanding businesses in Vietnam will not only bring benefits to themselves but also help strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

*** Before attending this meeting, Mr Triet had met with US garment importers who described Vietnamese textile and garment producers and exporters as reliable partners. They said the quality and productivity of the Vietnamese garment makers are high and proposed that Mr Triet discuss removing the supervision of Vietnamese textile and garment products with the US Government, as this causes losses to both sides and opposes WTO rules.

President Triet highly valued contributions of the US Garment Importers Association to the development of the Vietnamese garment and textile sector. He affirmed that Vietnam wants to be a reliable partner in the supply of high quality garment products at competitive prices to US consumers. Mr Triet said that Vietnamese agencies are closely coordinating with their counterparts in the US Congress to ensure proper rights for businesses. He hoped that the US Garment Importers Association will coordinate with Vietnam to ask the US Government to remove trade barriers.
