The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Can Tho provincial People’s Committee have approved a blue-print for construction of the national sports training complex in the Mekong Delta, the project is estimated to cost up to US$131.25 million.

Covering 120ha in Binh Thuy district, the complex will include a high-quality professional training area for trainers and athletes, a sports service section, indoor and outdoor competition areas, a water sports section, a 40,000-seat stand, a football and track-and-field ground, and other facilities.

Part of the sports sector’s development strategy through 2015 with a vision for 2020, the complex will serve as a training centre for Vietnam’s elite athletes to prepare for domestic and international tournaments.

Currently, national players get their training at two national sports centres in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
