Vietnam wants businesses from the Republic of Korea (RoK) to further invest in Vietnam as a leading foreign partner, said the State President.

Vietnam has many areas that need further investment, President Nguyen Minh Triet told new RoK Ambassador to Vietnam Park Suk-hwan, who presented his credentials in Hanoi on May 5.

The President urged Ambassador Park Suk-hwan to closely work with Vietnamese agencies to boost trade and socio-cultural cooperation between the two countries, especially in improving the bilateral trade balance.

At the reception, President Triet expressed his pleasure at the growing bilateral ties’ in all areas within the framework of “Strategic cooperative partnership” reached during the Vietnam visit by President Lee Myung-bak last October.

He praised the Vietnam-RoK inter-governmental committee on economic, scientific and technological cooperation for its plan to hold its session in July as well as relevant agencies’ efforts to accelerate negotiations on a Vietnam-RoK free trade agreement.

Ambassador Park Suk-hwan pledged to spare no effort to help raise the two-way trade to US$20 billion by 2015.
