PM Pham Minh Chinh delivers win-win message at ASEAN BIS 2023
VOV.VN - Closer and more effective and substantive cooperation between the government and businesses is the decisive factor in surmounting difficulties and bringing out win-win results, stressed Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit 2023 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Addressing the summit held on September 4, Chinh pointed out opportunities and challenges facing ASEAN in a multipolar world, saying that in this context ASEAN is a polar in such a world, with challenges outnumbering opportunities.
In order for ASEAN to continue to promote its role and seize opportunities from the current world order, he suggested that ASEAN consolidate and strengthen intra-bloc solidarity, maintain its common principles, positions and viewpoints, and strike strategic balance in relations between ASEAN and its partners.
ASEAN should maintain a long-term commitment to opening markets and promoting trade and investment, while opening the door to investors and further facilitating free trade and economic links regionally and globally, he said.
According to the PM, the bloc should deepen regional integration to bring into full play each other’s strengths with a view to seizing opportunities from the new global economy, especially new growth drivers such as digital transformation, green transition, circular economy, and sharing economy.
In addition, he said ASEAN should not sacrifice equality, social progress, social security and environmental protection for mere economic growth.
To further promote the role of businesses in promoting growth and creating new breakthroughs for ASEAN, the Prime Minister suggested that the government and businesses need to cooperate more closely, effectively and substantively.
It is necessary to work together to improve institutions through standardization and harmonization of investment and business regulations in ASEAN, and at the same time simplify procedures through digital transformation, encourage and value the voice of businesses in order to promptly remove arising problems, he said.
He called for joint efforts to develop strategic infrastructure for economic connectivity, including hard infrastructure in transportation, energy, digital transformation infrastructure, and green development. He also underlined the need to develop high-quality human resources, especially in the fields of digital transformation, green transition, high technology, and innovation.
The Vietnamese Prime Minister called on businesses to take the lead in innovation, increase labour productivity, improve business capacity and ethics, build a healthy, equal and sustainable business environment, and promote their roles and responsibilities to the community, especially in remote, border and island areas to ensure no one is left behind.
Vietnam, as a trusted partner and active and responsible member, will continue to coordinate closely with Indonesia and other ASEAN countries in an effort to build a united, unified, self-sufficient and developed ASEAN, contributing to maintaining an environment of peace, stability, cooperation and common development in the region and the world at large, he affirmed.
Chinh also called on businesses to uphold the spirit of solidarity to build a resilient and developed ASEAN, and improve the material and spiritual lives of the people, bringing practical benefits to the people and the community, as well as businesses themselves.
Vietnam always creates the best possible conditions for investors in the spirit of enjoying harmonious benefits and sharing common risks, he assured, adding investors’ success is Vietnam’s success.
