In the women’s event, 8 teams will be divided in 2 groups. The host country, Vietnam, will be in group A with Thailand, Malaysia and Jordan while Japan, Uzbekistan, Iran and the Philippines will compete in group B. The teams will play in a round robin format and the four group leaders will qualify for the semi-final. The hosts have a good chance of winning a medal as they only face Thailand, one of the three strongest opponents in the event, along with Japan and Uzbekistan.

The 14 teams in the men’s event will be divided into 4 groups (2 groups with 3 teams and 2 groups with 4 teams). They will also play in a round robin format to select the 8 group winners for the quarter-final.

The men’s event will take place at the Phu Tho Sports Complex from October 28-November 7 and the women’s will be played at the Tan Binh Sport Complex from October 28-November 6 in Ho Chi Minh City.
