1,196 active COVID-19 cases added to national tally, with HCM City reporting 970

VOV.VN - The Health Ministry confirmed an additional 1,196 positive COVID-19 cases at midday on July 14, with Ho Chi Minh City, the current biggest coronavirus epicenter, leading the way in terms of infections with 971 new cases.

Among the new cases, Ho Chi Minh City recorded 971, Tien Giang (115), Dong Thap (91), Phu Yen (8), Ben Tre (3), Bac Giang (2), and one each in Hue, Vinh Phuc, Lao Cai, Lam Dong, Nghe An, and Hanoi, in which 1,095 cases were detected in isolation facilities or areas currently under lockdown.

The majority of the new cases detected in Ho Chi Minh City involve individuals who are already in quarantine or in areas currently under lockdown, although some people have been infected through unknown transmission sources.

Furthermore, the cases detected in other provinces involve either F1 contacts of confirmed patients or were detected in sealed-off areas. Moving forward, these individuals have been placed under epidemiological investigation

Following the detection of the latest cases, 34,656 domestic infections and 1,949 imported ones have now been registered nationwide so far.

Moreover, the number of cases reported since the fourth COVID-19 wave hit the country has reached 33,086, with 6,779 cases going on to recover from the pandemic.

This comes amid Ho Chi Minh City continuing to endure a sharp increase in the number of fresh local infections, with more than 1,000 cases being found on a daily basis.

Elsewhere, the southern province of Binh Duong has also seen a recent spike in positive COVID-19 cases.

Nguyen Trong Khoa, deputy head of the provincial Department of Medical Examination and Treatment, anticipates that the number of F0 cases will increase rapidly in the near future, therefore the province must urgently prepare additional ICU beds as a means of coping with the worsening situation.

Binh Duong has also requested that the Ministry of Health dispatch between 100 and 120 doctors from other localities in order to support the province as it is forecast that the number of active COVID-19 cases will continue to increase over the coming days.

In total, the country has recorded 36,605 COVID-19 cases to date, with 9,553 recoveries and 132 fatalities.
