Vietnam will send war-era movies such as Virgin Field and Hanoi Girl to an international film festival for the first time.

The films will make their festival debut at the Jeonju international film festival in the Republic of Korea (RoK) from May 1-9.

Other films featuring Vietnam, its people and land after the war ended are “Crazy Sister Nam” and “Roads toward Justice”.

Festival Programme Director Woo Un-seong says Koreans show a lot of interest in stories from Vietnam.

Vietnamese filmmakers say they hope their films will help change Vietnam’s image in the eyes of RoK audiences who are only used to seeing western movies about the country such as “Indochina” or other US movies.
