Hanoi’s grand meeting marks War Invalids and Martyrs Day

A grand meeting was held in Hanoi on July 27 to celebrate War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day with the attendance of senior Party and State leaders.

In his speech, PM Nguyen Tan Dung expressed sentiment, deep gratitude, kind regards and best wishes to Vietnamese heroic mothers, martyrs and their families, as well as people credited with serving the revolution.

Reviewing the patriotic tradition, Mr Dung said millions of Vietnamese people, especially youth, who had devoted their life to national independence, freedom and unification. The majority of them laid down their lives in battles across the country or are survivors suffering from the trauma of war.

Over the past decades, the Party and State have attached great importance to taking care of war invalids, sick soldiers, the families of fallen soldiers and people who have rendered service to the nation.

The tradition of paying debts of gratitude to those who made great contributions to the country has become widespread and is now a regular activity of people from every stratum of society, he said.

Upholding the notion of “when drinking water, remember its source”, the Party, State and people will continue efforts to improve the material and spiritual lives of persons of merit, ensuring that their living standards will be the same as or higher than average.

The Government leader asked all local authorities, agencies and organizations to conduct more communication activities to raise the awareness of the tradition of patriotism and gratitude among all strata, especially younger generations.

He also expressed his wish that persons of merit will continue upholding the revolutionary tradition and set examples in implementing the guidelines and policies of the Party and the law of the State, overcoming difficulties not only to build a better life for themselves and their families but also to make even greater contributions to the country.

The same day, PM Dung also visited a painting exhibition featuring the sacrifice of Vietnamese heroic mothers.

The event is part of activities to mark War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day held by the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) and the Ho Chi Minh Fine Arts Association.
