Localities urged to brace for impact of typhoon Saudel

VOV.VN - Localities should be vigilant about the path of typhoon Saudel, the eighth storm to hit the East Sea this year, and make thorough preparations in order to cope with the weather event ahead of it making landfall in the central region, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung told a meeting held on October 21 in Hanoi.

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Dung asked localities to swiftly inform fishing vessels operating at sea about the current direction and movement of the storm and urged them to seek safe shelter.

Furthermore, relevant units have been requested to keep in close contact and prepare rescue equipment in order to promptly handle bad scenarios that may occur, while also paying special attention to aquaculture activities occurring at sea.

The Deputy PM also asked flood-prone localities to devise practical solutions in response to the storm and evacuate local people from dangerous areas in an effort to avoid risks such as landslides and flash floods. This should be done while ensuring the safety of dams and reservoirs throughout the region to mitigate the impact of the storm.

According to forecasters, the typhoon will bring about a high risk of landslides and devastating flooding in mountainous provinces such as Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Thua Thien-Hue, Ha Tinh, and Quang Tri.

According to preliminary reports, local authorities have called on and guided 52,598 fishing vessels out of the dangerous areas.

Deputy PM Dung has also directed relevant units to continue focusing on relief activities for people in the central region, the area which has been hardest hit by recent spell of severe flooding and landslides.
