Deputy Defence Minister hosts Singaporean Ambassador

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Chien said that Vietnam was appreciative of the position, role, and active participation of Singapore in promoting bilateral ties, especially within the ASEAN framework. This can thereby contribute to boosting intra-bloc solidarity whilst simultaneously enhancing the role and position of the bloc within the region and the wider world.

He went on to express his hope that Singapore will uphold its role and bolster the implementation of the various targets of the ASEAN Community together with the country and other ASEAN nations.

The official therefore thanked the Singaporean Government for providing the nation with COVID-19 vaccines via the COVAX Facility and expressed hope for continued support moving forward.

The Vietnamese Government and the National Defence Ministry continue to treasure the countries’ strategic partnership, describing it as a foundation in beefing up bilateral defence co-operation to achieve practical results, he said.

Deputy Minister Chien also outlined his hope that the Singaporean Ambassador continues to pay attention to and promote the implementation of co-operation fields that all sides agreed upon at the recent 12th Vietnam-Singapore defence policy dialogue to strengthen the bilateral strategic co-operation in the future.

In response, Ambassador Ratnam underlined that joint relations have grown and flourished over the past five decades on the foundation of mutual respect and trust, especially after the countries boosted bilateral ties to a strategic partnership in 2013.

Defence remains among the most important fields of co-operation of bilateral relations between the two sides, he added. The diplomat also pledged his best efforts to ramp up mutual ties across a variety of fields, including national defence.
