According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Processors (VASEP),

By mid January, many US seafood distribution groups had directly negotiated with Vietnamese seafood processing companies to secure long-term business contracts. However, they require strict food hygiene and safety requirements and clear origins of products.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced that this year, it will examine the antibiotic residue of 950 exported and domestic aquatic products, up by 420 products against 2005.

The Ministry of Fisheries is expected to earn US$2.8 billion in seafood export turnover in 2006, an increase of 5.66 percent over last year.
