US organization presents wheelchairs to handicapped people
(VOV) -The Vietnamese Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) on January 28 handed over 550 wheelchairs donated by a US organization to handicapped people in nine provinces.
Beneficiaries are disabled people in Ninh Binh, Vinh Phuc, Hoa Binh, Son La, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, and Ha Nam provinces.
The donations were sponsored by the US’ Free Wheelchair Mission (FWM) through its fellow American organisation Humanitarian Services for Children of Vietnam (HSCV).
At the ceremony, HSCV Head Chuck de Vevet said through non-governmental organisations in Vietnam, the FWM has provided thousands of wheelchairs to disabled people across the country.
Under the FWM’s authorisation, HSCV has coordinated with Vietnamese partners to ensure the wheelchairs reach those with the most pressing need, providing them with a means to reintegrate into their communities, Vevet said.
VUFO President Vu Xuan Hong awarded the HSCV a certificate of merit recognising its contributions to poverty reduction and sustainable development in Vietnam.
