The construction of a hydro-electric power plant at an estimated cost of over VND5.7 trillion (roughly US$322 million) began in Kon Plong district in the central highland province of Kon Tum on September 27.
The Thuong Kon Tum hydro-electric power plant, the largest of its kind in the province so far, is designed to have a total capacity of 220 MW to produce 1.1 billion KW of electricity a year.

Once completed in 2014, the plant will supply electricity to the national 220KV power grid and contribute to controlling the water level in the Tra Khuc river in the central province of Quang Ngai, to serve agriculture and industry in the lowland region.
