Nearly 500 children selected as most outstanding from Ho Chi Minh City’s 24 districts attended the opening ceremony of the summer 2008 programme in Ho Chi Minh City’s Dam Sen Water Park on May 27.
Addressing the ceremony, Vice President of the municipal People’s Committee, Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, called for all the city’s school children to actively participate in summer activities.
With the aim of implementing a civilized lifestyle in the city, this year’s event will include diverse activities such as environmental protection, outdoor trips to learn about nature, granting books to children in remote areas and many other voluntary campaigns, she added.
On the same day, as many as 11 unfortunate children were provided with scholarships from the Nu cuoi hong (pink smile) Fund, each worth between VND2-5 million.
The summer programme is an annual activity which involves school children from different localities in social, cultural and educational activities with the aim of ensuring that their summer holidays are safe and productive./.
