According to the Statistics General Department, Vietnam exported 4.72 million tonnes of rice in 2008, earning US$2.9 billion.

Although the rice export volume increased by only 3.6 percent compared with last year, its turnover jumped by nearly 95 percent thanks to higher prices of the Vietnamese rice in the world market.
