Vietnam and Russia will work closely to implement the agreements which were signed during Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s visit to Russia in December 2009.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Training, Nguyen Thien Nhan, made this promise at a meeting with Russian Minister of Education and Science, Andrey Fursenko in Moscow on March 15.

Mr Nhan briefed on Vietnam’s social and political situation as well as current education and training. He highly praised strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia as well as between the two ministries in training Vietnamese students in recent years. He expressed his hope that the co-operation will speed up in the near future.

The two sides discussed issues related to a project to establish the Russia-Vietnam University, granting scholarships to Vietnamese students and re-training Vietnamese students who have graduated in Russia, as well as helping Vietnam set up an e-library linking Vietnamese universities and colleges. They also discussed measures to strengthen direct links between Vietnamese and Russian universities, and send Russian teachers, experts and students to work and study in Vietnam.

Russia highly valued Vietnam’s proposals and agreed to discuss in detail at other meetings.

At the end of meeting, Mr Nhan and Mr Andrey signed an agreement on mutual recognition of academic and scientific degrees between the two countries.

On the same day, Mr Nhan and his entourage visited Moscow State University and Alltech Group in Moscow.
