An additional 101 patients tested positive for the A/H1N1 flu on August 19, bringing the total of confirmed cases in Vietnam to 1,676.

According to the Ministry of Health, 1,073 patients have been released from hospital after treatment and two deaths have been reported so far.

Currently, the remaining 603 patients are in quarantine for medical treatment. All are in stable condition.

To raise awareness of the super flu, the first lesson at school for the 2009-2010 academic year is on how to curb the spread of the disease, Health Minister Nguyen Quoc Trieu said at a meeting with the national steering board on flu prevention in humans in Hanoi on August 19.

All pupils and students will be provided with a basic knowledge of the A/H1N1 flu, clinical symptoms, and methods to guard against infection, he added.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC)’s report said the A/H1N1 flu has spread to 168 countries and territories worldwide with a total of 227,562 confirmed cases, resulting in 2,073 fatalities.
