The State leader said as the relations, especially in trade and economics, are far from tapping the two countries’ potential, Vietnam hopes to raise bilateral relationship to a new level for mutual benefit.

We are now taking measures to support two-way trade and recognize each other’s full market economy status, he said, adding that the two countries are prepared to negotiate a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Kazakhstan - Russia - Belarus customs union.

Mr Nazarbayev said he was pleased to pay the first official visit to Vietnam since he was elected President of Kazakhstan in 1990. He highlighted the traditional friendship between the two countries and said he hopes to enhance ties with Vietnam in all fields.

Party leader Trong applauded the visit, saying it is a strong symbol of the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries and thanked Kazakhstan’s people for their great support for Vietnam’s national construction and defence.

Vietnam always attaches importance to developing relations with foreign countries, including Kazakhstan, Mr Trong said.

**At a reception for Kazakh President, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said apart from cooperating in economics, the two sides should promote exchange and cooperation in culture, society, defence, security and diplomacy.

Vietnam will help Kazakhstan strengthen relations with ASEAN member countries, Mr Hung said, adding that the Vietnam National Assembly will do its utmost to further foster the friendship between the two countries.

The Kazakh President said that legislative ties between the two countries play an important role in considering, assessing and speeding up the implementation of agreements signed by the two nations.
