The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) will accept 500,000 tonnes of equivalent energy aid, a senior Republic of Korean (RoK) official said.

The agreement among members of the six-party talks on the DPRK's nuclear weapons programme was reached at the end of the Oct. 29-30 working-group meeting held in the truce village of Panmunjeom, RoK chief negotiator Lim Sung Nam said.

Negotiators agreed that member countries of the six-party nuclear talks will also continue to provide the DPRK with 50,000 tonnes of oil every month.

Under the framework of the six-party talks, the DPRK received 50,000 tonnes of heavy fuel oil from the RoK and an equal amount from China for shutting down its nuclear facilities in July.

It will also receive additional assistance equivalent to 900,000 tonnes of oil in return for the disablement of the three nuclear facilities and declaration of all its nuclear programmes by the year's end.

The six-party talks comprise the DPRK, the RoK, the United States, China, Japan and Russia.
