Construction of the largest float glass factory in Vietnam started at the Chu Lai economic zone in central Quang Nam province on February 2.

The 100-ha Chu Lai factory will be built at an estimated cost of roughly US$81 million and is expected to be put into operation after fifteen months of construction.

Once fully operational, the factory, which boasts a state-of-the-art float glass production line with a daily melting capacity of 700 tonnes, can annually to the market more than 40 million square metres of glass products with thickness ranging between 15-20 mm a year.

The Vietnam Coal and Minerals Industry Corporation has chosen Quang Nam for the glass plant as the province is rich in natural white sand, the main material for glass making.
