General Vo Tien Trung, Director of the Vietnam Defence Academy, made a presentation on Vietnam’s defence policy at the US National Defence University on October 6.

In the presence of Vice Admiral Rondeau and a number of reporters from AP and Reuters, General Trung first summed up the Vietnamese people’s glorious history of national construction and defence through different stages from the feudal times to the two recent protracted wars of resistance against foreign aggression.

Regarding Vietnam’s defence policy, General Trung emphasized that Vietnam is building a strong defence system not to stage wars against others but to rid the country of war elements and maintain domestic security and political stability.

Vietnam’s defence policy aims to protect the country’s independence and sovereignty with all-people strength.

During his presentation, General Trung answered US scholars’ questions about China’s intentions behind its peaceful rise, Vietnam’s geopolitics, and its defence ties with the US.

Mr Trung added that the US and Vietnamese defence academies will have a regular exchange of visits by both lecturers and trainees.
