A ministerial conference on the United Nations (UN) Delivering as One (DaO) initiative opened in Hanoi on June 16 with the participation of eight pilot countries, 10 countries voluntarily adopting or interested in the DaO approach, 18 donor countries, and numerous executives of the UN system.

Participants discussed the outcomes of three years of the initiative and worked out recommendations on the Way Forward agreed upon by the governments of the programme pilot countries, donors and participants from the United Nations.

Speaking at the conference, Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung expressed appreciation for the initiative to hold a high-ranking conference which provides pilot countries with a chance to evaluate the DaO approach, in preparation for an independent evaluation by the end of 2010.

The PM said the conference has shown the commitment and contribution of Vietnam as well as other pilot countries to the reform of the United Nations. “It will help to call on the other UN member countries to participate in the initiative,” he said.

Mr. Dung also expressed his thanks to the UN, international community, and donor countries for their support to pilot countries. He said he hoped Vietnam and other developing countries will receive more support in their cause for economic development and social stabilization.

The initiative has attracted more participating countries since its launch three years ago.
