Indonesia has been negotiating to buy 25,000 tonnes of Vietnamese coffee to meet the rising domestic demand, an industry official said.

“Indonesian companies are negotiating with Vietnamese exporters to buy 25,000 tonnes as our stock is at a low level now," Litha Brent, vice chairman of the Association of Indonesian Coffee Exporters (AEKI) was cited by the Antara news agency as saying.

According to AEKI Chairman Hassan Widjaja, Indonesia is likely to import 60,000 tonnes of coffee from Vietnam, Kenya and Uganda between January and April, 2008 to meet the growing demand prior to the new crop.

Indonesia has bought 80,000 tonnes of coffee this year for domestic consumption.
