Vietnam’s green growth action plan needs implementation

(VOV) - Hanoi has hosted a seminar on Vietnam’s action plan on green growth with a view to surveying opinions on the best way to implement the national green growth strategy.

Addressing the seminar, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen The Phuong said the national strategy reflects Vietnam’s determination to embrace a green growth model that will deliver sustainability and the capacity to cope with climate change.

The action plan’s goal is to reorient the economy in a way that encourages its sectors to use energy and natural resources as efficiently as possible.

Phuong expressed a wish for the support of the international community during the action plan’s implementation.

Pratibha Mehta, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Vietnam, recommended Vietnam triage the priorities in each of its action plan’s phases.

Concrete plans for action must be developed and embraced in every locality if the green growth strategy is to work.

World Bank representatives in Vietnam said that success also requires consensus at both local and central levels.

Authorities should honour their responsibility to mobilise and manage financial resources allocated to the strategy.

Seminar participants representing international and local organisations shared their ideas for perfecting Vietnam’s action plan to ensure the roadmap will eventually end at the effective implementation of the national green growth strategy.
