While increasingly integrating into the world economy, Vietnam needs to complete its system of anti-dumping laws, said Dinh My Loan director of Competition Management Department (CMD) of the Vietnamese Trade Ministry.

Speaking at a seminar in Hanoi on Monday entitled “The law on anti-dumping” which was attended by many local and foreign commercial and legal experts, Ms Loan said Vietnam should prepare infrastructure facilities and human resources as well as laws to better cope with trade barriers abroad in order to ensure the interests of the national economy.

She added that Vietnam has already promulgated the Ordinance on Anti-dumping, which specifically defines measures, procedures and contents for anti-dumping investigations. The ordinance was built in conformity with the country’s legislation and regulations as stipulated in the World Trade Organisation (WTO)’s Anti-dumping Agreement, Ms Loan confirmed.

Regarding these legal documents, the Trade Minister is enabled to make decisions to conduct investigations into imported commodities if they are required by local organisations or individuals, Ms Loan said.

So far, Vietnam has not brought any anti-dumping lawsuits against commodities imported into the country. However, 21 kinds of Vietnamese goods faced anti-dumping lawsuits in foreign countries.
