A ceremony to award prizes for the international writing contest entitled “Thang Long-Hanoi-Your Destination” for foreigners in 2005 was held at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi on January 17.

The first prize was presented to Yu Chang Lin, a Chinese teacher. The organising board also handed over five second prizes, 10 third prizes and 16 honourable mentions.

The 2005 contest, focusing on the historical and cultural values of the Thang Long Citadel, attracted 1,175 essays by 1,333 entrants from 51 countries and territories around the world.

The contest in 2006 will continue with a focus on the historical and cultural hallmarks of the ancient Co Loa Citadel. Writings can be submitted in Vietnamese, English, Russian, Chinese, French and Esperanto.

These events are part of the annual contests launched in 2000 by the Hanoi Union of Friendship Associations and the Steering Board for Celebration of the 1,000 Years of Thang Long-Hanoi to all foreigners and overseas Vietnamese and will last through 2010.
