Six engineers from a company based in Ho Chi Minh City died when crossing the Krong No River in the central highland province of Dak Nong on the afternoon of March 13.

The wooden boat, owned and rowed by a local, carrying a total of 11 persons from Monsanto Company, sank in the middle of the river due to violent current.

Six other people, including the boat owner, successfully swam to the bank.

The Monsanto employees had crossed the river safely the first time from Nam NDir to Ea Rbin, when they were divided to two groups to go across the river separately.

The incident occurred when they were returning from Ea Rbin to Nam NDir.

The Monsanto staff members were on a business trip to examine the maize variety that their company provided to local people.

The rescue forces of Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces recovered the bodies of three victims and are still searching for the other three.
