Top Vietnamese badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh easily thrashed Indian opponent Ajay Jayaram in the second round of the Singapore Open Super Series on June 21 to enter the quarter-finals.

He quickly finished the match with 21-15 in the first set and 21-14 in the second.

Minh will face Malaysian underdog Daren Liew, who unexpectedly defeated the tournament’s No.2 Lee Hyun Il from the Republic of Korea.

Earlier, he only needed 34 minutes to beat the Netherlands’ Eric Pang 2-0 in the first round.

The same day, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) announced its latest rankings.

Accordingly, the Vietnamese player remained in the 11th position while Chinese player Lin Dan claimed back the first place which had been attained by Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei for nearly three years.
