Fruit, vegetable exports valued at US$3.3 billion

Vietnam earned some US$3.3 billion from vegetable and fruit exports during January-October, up 15.5% from the same time last year, the Agro Processing Market Development Authority (AgroTrade) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has said.

Of the total shipments, 90.3% were raw products while the processed ones only accounted for 9.7%.

China remained the largest market of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables. Vietnam shipped nearly US$2.2 billion worth of the products to the neighbouring country in the first nine months of the year, a year-on-year surge of 10.4%.

Strong growth was seen in the exports to Thailand (35%), Australia (31.6%), the US (30%), and the Republic of Korea (24.4%).

In October, Vietnam splashed out US$134 million on purchasing foreign fruits and vegetables, raising the total import value of these products in the ten-month period to US$1.43 billion, rising 13.1% against the same period last year.

The AgroTrade said that many fruit and vegie processing plants will be put into operation in the last months of 2018, helping Vietnam improve its production capacity in order to realise its set goal of US$4 billion in export revenue this year.
