Police break up drug trafficking ring from Canada to Vietnam

VOV.VN - The police in Tay Ho district of Hanoi have broken up a transnational drug trafficking ring led by a Vietnamese-Canadian man.

The police said that on May 11 they decided to prosecute three suspects for their illegal trading of drugs. The accused include Phung Duc Quan, 37, a Canadian of Vietnamese origin residing in Nam Tu Liem district, along with Vu Khuong, 27, and Vu Diem Quynh, 23, both residing in Gia Lam district.

According to the indictment, Vu Khuong was caught red handed in Tu Lien ward as he was illegally trading about 100 pills of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), also known as ecstasy. Searching his house the police  seized a further 433 ecstasy pills.

The police then expanded their investigation and issued urgent arrest for both Quynh and Quan involved in the ring.

They discovered that Quan masterminded the ring by colluding with Canadian dealers to bring synthetic drugs into Vietnam via the postal service. The drugs were hidden inside vitamin C bottles and subsequently sent to the kingpin. The Vietnamese-Canadian man then handed over the drugs to Khuong and Quynh to be sold on the street.

The police are now working to identify other suspects involved in the drug trafficking ring and have informed the Canadian Embassy in Vietnam about the case.
