Vietnam will host a series of activities later this year to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).

A meeting is scheduled to be held on November 14 with the participation of all current National Assembly deputies of Vietnam, foreign ambassadors and heads of diplomatic corps in Hanoi, said Nguyen Van Son, chairman of the NA Committee for External Relations.

The committee will compile a book on the establishment, development, organisation and operation of the AIPA and the Vietnamese legislature’s participation in the regional body, he said.

The legislator added that the committee will coordinate with the Vietnam News Agency to organise a photo exhibition on the AIPA and Vietnam’s role in the AIPA. It will also join hands with Vietnam Television to make a documentary entitled “ The Vietnam National Assembly and the AIPA.”

The AIPA was officially established in 1977 and now it has eight members, including Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, and two special observers, Brunei and Myanmar.

The 30th anniversary of the AIPA is celebrated in all member nations on the initiative introduced by Vietnam at the 27th meeting of the AIPA General Assembly in the Philippines.
