Asia needs to maintain its recovery growth and with economic restructuring on a more balanced, greener, qualitative and effective development model.

The statement was made by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung at a plenary session held immediately after the opening of the 2010 World Economic Forum (WEF) on East Asia in HCM City on June 6.

Mr Dung, ASEAN General Secretary Surin Pitsuwan, leaders from Russia’s VTB Bank and India’s Tata Steel Group discussed a score of measures to reform and control the financial system, develop mechanisms and policies to enhance the private sectors’ role, highlight business responsibility, increase management capacity, attract talented people and protect the environment to ensure Asia’s sustainable development.

Concerning domestic market development, Mr Dung said that Vietnam is developing its domestic market along with promoting economic growth, ensuring social equality and reducing poverty. It has also tapped into its potential and advantages to boost exports.

PM Dung also underlined the need to mobilise all resources for sustainable infrastructure development by dealing with institutions and mechanisms to encourage private investment and gain access to capital sources through international organisations such as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
