At a press briefing on October 21, the organising board said that the athletes will compete in eight events including football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, badminton, chess, taekwondo and track and field events.

The third games are divided into two phases with the first phase being held last May when 500 athletes fought it out in badminton, basketball and taekwondo. The second phase and the remaining events will be held on October 24-30.

Universities, which have a large number of athletes include Sports and Physical Training Universities I and II, Hanoi Polytechnic University, Ho Chi Minh Polytechnic University, Forestry University, Can Tho University and Da Nang University.
