Tropical storm RAI downgrades to a tropical depression

VOV.VN - After making landfall in Quang Nam and Quang Ngai central provinces on early September 13, tropical storm Rai has been weakened into a tropical depression.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF), the storm caused heavy rains in central provinces from Thua Thien- Hue to Quang Ngai with average rainfall of 50-100mm.

At 4am on September 13, the storm center was at 15.6 degrees North and 108.2 degrees East. The highest wind gusts was 50-60km per hour.

It is forecast to shift west-northwest at 15-20km per hour over the next 6-12 hours. It will hit the mainland before weakening into a tropical depression in southern Laos, with the strongest winds forecast to fall to below 40km per hour.

The tropical depression will cause rough seas off the coast from central Quang Tri to Quang Ngai provinces.


On September 13, provinces from Nghe An to Thua Thien- Hue witnessed heavy rains and strong wind.


Storm Rai has destroyed a large number of trees and blew away many posters in Danang City. Several fishing vessels were sunk and a fisherman from Quang Binh province was reported missing.
