Twenty-four coaches and 147 shooters are participating in the National Shooting Cup, which opened at Hanoi’s National Sports Centre No 1 on April 4.

Athletes from the Hanoi, Army, Public Securing Ministry, and provincial delegations, including Hai Duong, Quang Ninh, Vinh Phuc, Hai Phong and Nghe An, will compete in 30 events, including rifle, pistol, air gun and trap shooting.

Hanoian shooters are expected to be big winners this year, boasting the largest number of competition participants with 31 men and 16 women.

At last year’s event, Hanoi’s veteran riflemen Nguyen Tan Nam, 44, Nguyen Thanh Hung and Duong Anh Quan, edged out the Army rivals to take the overall title with seven gold, four silver and four bronze medals.

Army shooters ranked second with six golds, three silvers and seven bronzes. They beat out Hai Duong, who came third with two gold, five silver and two bronze medals.

At the Southeast Asian Shooting Association Championships in Subang, Malaysia last year, Vietnam won 16 gold, nine silver and one bronze medals.

Shooters from across Vietnam will participate in the national competition until April 9.
